Picture Perfect: Celebrating Art in the Home
Picture Perfect: Celebrating Art in the Home
As featured in The London Magazine
Art has the power to transform a house into a home, adding depth, character, and a deeply personal narrative to any space. Whether it’s a striking sculpture in an entrance hall or a curated collection of paintings displayed with intention, art elevates interiors beyond aesthetics, creating a story that reflects the lives and passions of those who live there.
I was recently honoured to be featured in The London Magazine’s October issue in their feature article “Picture Perfect”, which explores how art and interior design come together to create living spaces that are as inspiring as they are beautiful.
This article reflects a philosophy I hold close: art should never be an afterthought, but rather an integral part of the design process from the very beginning.
My Perspective: Art as the Heart of Design
In my work, I always begin by understanding a client’s relationship with art - whether they are seasoned collectors or just beginning their journey. From there, we consider how each piece interacts with the architecture, natural light, and surrounding materials.
For one recent project, a client’s personal art collection became the very foundation of the design scheme. Every decision - from furniture placement to wall panelling, lighting design, and even subtle architectural details - was guided by the need to create a harmonious yet striking backdrop for their collection.
The result was a home that feels timeless and deeply personal: not a gallery, but a living space where art breathes and tells a story.
In Inspiring Company
One of the most exciting aspects of being part of this article was sharing the pages with some of the most respected names in the interior design world.
Design leaders featured in the piece included:
Lucinda Sanford – celebrated for her bespoke display solutions, including a striking glass collection display at The Chilterns in Marylebone.
Katharine Pooley – who champions the use of fine art photography to bring drama and storytelling into luxury spaces.
Ryan Rankin – known for placing art in unexpected locations, creating intrigue and surprise.
Victoria Wormsley of French-Brooks Interiors – discussing how clients evolve their collections over a lifetime, blending eras and styles.
MAWD – whose Queen’s Gate Mews project fused the vibrant energy of a New York loft with the elegance of a Parisian salon, all while showcasing a deeply personal art collection.
Being featured alongside such esteemed professionals not only highlights the importance of this conversation but also reinforces how diverse and exciting the relationship between art and interiors can be.
The London Magazine Feature
The London Magazine has long been a trusted voice for luxury property and design. Their coverage of this topic couldn’t have been more timely, coinciding with London’s annual Frieze Art Fair, a celebration of global creativity.
In Picture Perfect, writer Tallulah Rushaya captures how designers, galleries, and consultants collaborate to help clients curate collections that reflect their personal journeys — blending tradition with contemporary artistry and craftsmanship.
For me, this collaboration between disciplines is what makes luxury design truly meaningful: every home becomes a work of art in its own right.
Why Art Matters in Luxury Interiors
Art is more than decoration; it’s a catalyst for connection.
It sparks conversation.
It anchors memories and milestones.
It sets the emotional tone of a room.
When integrated thoughtfully, it can change the way a space feels and functions. From selecting the perfect frame for a beloved painting to designing custom lighting that protects and enhances each piece, the smallest details matter.
