This exceptional penthouse extension crowns the historic Manor House Apartments on Abbey Road in St John’s Wood. Conceived as an elevated retreat above the inter-war Neo-Georgian block, the residence represents our fourth collaboration with a trusted developer client. The project involved significant planning and architectural challenges, requiring careful negotiation of permissions before advancing to design. Once approved, Supremati was granted full creative autonomy to shape the spatial flow, structure, and aesthetic vision.
Working within the architectural language of the 1930s building, we sought to enhance its heritage character while creating a distinctly contemporary interior. The original layout was reimagined to optimise natural light, proportion, and comfort. The master suite was expanded to establish a clear distinction from the guest quarters, and extensive bespoke storage was integrated to maintain an uncluttered, harmonious feel.
Our role encompassed the full design direction - from structural and architectural refinements to the conception of all joinery and bespoke, made-to-order furniture. We curated every final element, from artwork and accessories to textiles and bedding, ensuring a seamless and cohesive finish.
Stylistically, the design embraces modernity with subtle nods to the building’s inter-war Neo-Georgian symmetry and restraint. As a tribute to the Art Deco sensibilities of the era, the interiors feature high-gloss wood, marble, gold detailing, and mirrored surfaces that enhance luminosity and depth. Inspired by the nearby green expanses of Regent’s Park, we introduced soft green tones and natural foliage to bring freshness and balance to the opulent material palette.
This penthouse exemplifies Supremati’s signature approach - blending architectural sensitivity with contemporary elegance to unlock the full potential of every space we design.
